Was the Civil War the greatest war in American history, or was it the biggest mistake in American history? Was the blood of more than one million men spilled over countless battlefields necessary to get rid of slavery? Was the country we called free for everyone just an idea? Was a nation born and then destroyed because of an institution that was nothing more than peculiar? Does the flag of a dead country that still flies over courthouses in the South speak for a nation? Does that same flag represent the evils of slavery or the pride of a people who don't know how to let go? Would our forefathers approve of and recognize the country we call America today? Did America's greatest war finally make us one nation?
Let an 11-year-old boy answer these questions the only way he knows how--by being honest about his country and himself. Unfurled No More Forever is about the death of an evil institution and the creation of a nation our forefathers truly intended.

Unfurled No More Forever offers a unique insight to a war where Americans actually hunted and killed Americans. Ask most anyone why this happened and they will respond in order to keep the slave in the fields pickin' cotton. This is rather absurd since virtually no soldiers on either side owned slaves so why would they kill one another over that?. After reading this book I came to realize the physical aspect of slavery was not what incited this riot but the political aspects of the institution of slavery would have on this country. Although well researched, this book is not for the purpose of increasing your knowledge of the Civil War, other books serve that purpose but this book looks at the political and social ramifications of slavery on a great nation Unlike the majority of people that have been born since this tragic time, Mr Eads writes this with a view from an eleven year old that would not allow family and society to influence his opinion regarding separate races. There are lessons here that we so badly need in today's society.Product details

Unfurled No More Forever (Audible Audio Edition) Michael L Eads LLC Red San Publishing Books Reviews
Worth reading, especially in light of the recent news to finally get rid of the Confederate flag. The "kid" figured it out and pulls no punches the civil war was about ending the great evil of slavery, and that's what the rebel flag represents.
This was a good read. Having just edited a set of journals written by a young Georgia teen who lived during the Civil War ("The War Outside My Window The Civil War Diary of LeRoy Wiley Gresham, 1860-1865"), I was grateful to have this contemporary work to read through. The comparisons were interesting, and show how much the concept of slavery has evolved over time. Eads goes into depth how an 11-year old boy born in the dawn of the Civil Rights era might process the idea of one human owning another; LeRoy was the son of a slaveholder about 100 years before this novel took place, describing his daily existence. While the lasting impact of the "peculiar institution" still echoes in our own time, it was interesting to compare these two (admittedly) different accounts!
I enjoyed this book so much and learned more about the civil war than I have from many other books.
I loved the way this kid looked at the whole civil war. I'd have to agree with his assertions but that's my personal opinion. It's even been well researched.
I just so happened to download this book in May 2014 while reading The Case for Reparations. These two reading should be companions. I am not saying that Michael Eads is writing a treatise for reparations. Nor am I writing that Ta-Nehisi Coates is a good historical novel read. I am saying that if you read the two together, you will begin to understand the historical meaning of slavery and the contemporary importance of what Mr. Eads' work brings to us. This an outstanding and simple explanation of America's original sin. It has quotable phrases. It has memorable analogies. I recommend this reading to all who would like to read a plain and uncomplicated story of how we might learn to process the pain of racism and how it has ruined our country. Thank you Michael eads for writing this book in such compelling prose.
Increases my understanding. Excellent blend of current events and historical events.
Unfurled No More Forever is about an eleven-year-old boy growing up in the early 1970s in Independence, Missouri. After he sees a tattered, old Confederate flag and an eerie gas station with his father, he becomes obsessed with the American Civil War.
The war is too big for him to understand completely which only adds to his curiosity of why Americans killed each other. Mark (the boy in the book) spends every day at the library devouring as many books as he can. He eventually realizes there are almost as many questions as answers regarding the bloodiest war in American history.
Eventually, the battles come to him in his dreams which are not only realistic but frightening. The images of war leave an indelible impression in Mark’s mind as he confronts the Civil War head-on, without the tarnished opinions of adults who were only trying to appease his inquisitive, young mind.
This book is about a boy growing up way too fast because of a war that defined America. A highly recommended book for all ages.
